Our ‘Why’
When I was a mother of one child, I was able to keep my son active and sign him up for a lot of activities and programs to ensure that he was well-rounded, diverse, and in-shape.
After having my second son and gaining custody of my niece and nephew, I quickly realized that none of the children would be able to have those same opportunities as my first child. Unfortunately, many programs that they were interested in were no longer in my budget. After speaking with other parents with similar concerns, I decided to do something about it. Forming Excel Detroit as a non-profit organization was my solution. An idle mind can lead to mischief, and I believe all children should have the opportunity to be mentally, physically, and emotionally stimulated. The primary focus of Excel Detroit is to provide youths with scholarships to attend sports programs, extracurricular activities, and summer programs that otherwise would be out of reach. I founded Excel Detroit to empower our youth and their entire family.
